    The French Alternative Energies and Atomic Energy Commission (CEA) http://www.cea.fr is both the operator of important nuclear facilities and a R&D organization. The CEA is a key player in research, development and innovation in four main areas: Defence and security, low carbon energies (nuclear and renewable energies), technological research for industry, fundamental research in the physical sciences and life sciences.

    As a nuclear operator, the CEA carries out construction and renovation of its facilities, as well as decommissioning after shut down and has put in place a dedicated department in charge of these operations.

    In the SHARE project, CEA will be the coordinator and will support all the WP activities.

    Efficient Innovation (EI)

    Created in 1997, Efficient Innovation is a French consulting company specialized in the field of innovation management with a vision of the whole innovation value chain, from opportunities generation with strategic creativity, to concept transformation into innovation projects, market studies and opportunities building, funding of the innovation projects through direct and indirect funds for companies.

    Efficient Innovation is specialist in European framework programmes since FP5 and has built up many European projects. Efficient Innovation offers services of European project management to its customers with is know-how and knowledge of FP European mechanisms, consortium agreement management, grant agreement management, dissemination activities. Efficient is also a specialist in industrial product design-to-cost, design-to-weight and life cycle analysis. Since October 2018 EI is part of the French group In Extenso. With a consolidated team of 100 consultants, EFFICIENT covers the full innovation management process.

    In the SHARE project, EI will be supporting management and dissemination actions, providing support and methodologies for WP2 as well as studies in WP3.

    Enresa was created in 1984 as a public, non-profit organisation responsible for the management of radioactive waste, with the aim to perform an essential public service: collecting, treating, conditioning, storing and disposing of the radioactive waste produced throughout the Spanish State.

    Therefore, the task of Enresa is to protect people and the environment from radioactive waste. It is also included the decommissioning of nuclear and radioactive facilities, as well as the environmental restoration of uranium mines.

    In the SHARE project, ENRESA will be leading the WP2, that aims to collect the needs of the global D&D R&I value chain.

    The Institute for Energy Technology (IFE) is an independent research organization and is in one of the leaders in technology development and research within energy, health and industrial development. IFE is implementing Norway’s largest nuclear research programme and is also responsible for administering the OECD Halden Reactor Project (OECD-HRP), which is a close to 60-year-long international undertaking supported by more than 100 organisations in 20 OECD countries. Under the OECD-HRP and other programmes, IFE has for many years been conducting research and implemented pilot applications of digital technologies for supporting work in nuclear and other safety critical environments. IFE has been designated by the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) as an International Collaborating Centre in the field of digitalisation of knowledge management for nuclear decommissioning. In the SHARE project, IFE will be focusing on needs and opportunities for digital innovation of nuclear decommission.

    The Directorate General-Joint Research Centre is the European Commission’s science and knowledge service. Its mission is to support EU policies with independent evidence throughout the whole policy cycle. Its work has a direct impact on the lives of citizens by contributing with its research outcomes to a healthy and safe environment, secure energy supplies, sustainable mobility and consumer health and safety. The JRC hosts specialist laboratories and unique research facilities and is home to thousands of scientists working to support EU policy. The JRC has ten Directorates and is located across five EU Member States (Belgium, Germany, Italy, the Netherlands and Spain).

    The Directorate involved in this project is Directorate G – Nuclear Safety and Security within which the JRC’s nuclear work programme, funded by the EURATOM Research and Training Programme, is carried out. It contributes to the scientific foundation for the protection of the European citizen against risks associated with the handling and storage of highly radioactive material, and scientific and technical support for the conception, development, implementation and monitoring of community policies related to nuclear energy. Research and policy support activities of Directorate G contribute towards achieving effective safety and safeguards systems for the nuclear fuel cycle, to enhance nuclear security then contributing to achieving the goal of low carbon energy production.

    JRC is leading the WP1 – Infrastructure for SHARE implementation: methodologies and tools and is involved in the implementation of the others SHARE work packages.

    KIT with more than 9,000 employees, 26,000 students and an annual budget of about EUR 785 million is one of the biggest research and education institutions. Among others KIT is partner in the programme “Nuclear Waste Management, Safety and Radiation Research” (NUSAFE) of the German Helmholtz Association, covering safety aspects of NPP, the efficient decommissioning of nuclear facilities, the management and final disposal of nuclear waste and the use of advanced experimental and computational infrastructures.

    The KIT decommissioning department evaluates decommissioning projects and the development of innovative and automated technologies for the use in nuclear facilities. Techniques for the decontamination of concrete surfaces, the separation of steel and ferroconcrete for the reduction of radioactive secondary waste are elaborated. Further projects are dealing with the impact of technical, economic, social and political consequences of decommissioning, the build-up of knowledge database and the implementation of tools for datamining.

    Lithuanian Energy Institute (LEI) is a state scientific research organization and carries out fundamental and applied research in various fields related to decommissioning, radioactive waste and spent nuclear fuel (SNF) management, safety and environmental impact assessment of nuclear facilities, heat transfer, hydro and gas dynamics, alternative energy sources, materials science.

    LEI has been actively involved in the analysis of the decommissioning and radioactive waste management problems at Lithuania and abroad. Implementing the research on the safety of the radwaste treatment, storage and disposal, and SNF storage and disposal in Lithuania, the researchers of LEI participated in the number of the national, IAEA coordinated research and ES FP7 and Horizon 2020 projects.

    LEI is contributing to tasks’ activities for all WP. The biggest involvement is in WP2, where LEI is responsible for D2.3 and D2.4 deliverables.

    The UK’s National Nuclear Laboratory (NNL) offers a breadth of technical products and services covering the complete nuclear fuel cycle, from fuel manufacture and power generation to reprocessing, waste treatment and disposal. We operate from six sites in Cumbria, Lancashire, Cheshire, Gloucestershire and Oxfordshire, although most of our work is focused around our sites in the North West of England, and we are the second biggest industrial employer in West Cumbria.

    With over 10,000 man years of nuclear experience across the fuel cycle, coupled with world-leading nuclear R&D facilities, we deliver the experts and technologies that ensure the UK nuclear industry operates safely, efficiently and cost effectively.

    NNL plays a central role in the co-ordination of UK nuclear research and development and maintains close links with academia and industry. We support Government in safeguarding the UK’s nuclear skills and capabilities and provide advice on key strategic decisions.

    The scope of our work includes measurement and analysis; waste and spent fuel technology; fuels and radioisotopes; safety management; asset care; security and environmental services.

    Within the SHARE project, NNL will be bringing a wealth of expertise on nuclear decommissioning and leading WP3 which aims to map existing state of the art technologies and organisational best practice currently employed across the nuclear industry in line with the needs determined in WP2.

    The Belgian nuclear research centre SCK•CEN has a long-standing experience in nuclear science and technology. About 700 people work on the development of peaceful industrial and medical applications of ionizing radiation and study the impact on man and the environment. Amongst various areas of fundamental and applied research we look for solutions for the disposal of radioactive waste and have developed techniques for the decommissioning of nuclear installations.

    As work package leader for the SHARE project, SCK•CEN support the other partners in gathering all necessary information to eventually provide the final deliverables by producing the strategic research agenda and then a decommissioning roadmap. It will also propose potential instruments to implement the roadmap.

    Sogin is the State-owned company responsible for the decommissioning of Italian nuclear plants and for the management of radioactive waste, including those produced by industrial, research and nuclear medicine activities. Activities are carried out to guarantee citizens’ safety on a daily basis, safeguard the environment and protect future generations. Entirely owned by the Italian Ministry of Economy and Finance, Sogin has been operating since 2001, following the strategic guidelines of the Italian Government.

    The Company has also the task of siting, designing, building and operating the National Repository, an environmental surface facility for the safe long-term storage and disposal of all radioactive waste. On the same site of the National Repository, a Technology Park will be created: a research centre, open to international cooperation, where innovations in the fields of nuclear decommissioning, radioactive waste management and sustainable development will be generated. For the SHARE project Sogin contributes to all WPs and leads Task 2.3 and Task 3.1.

    VTT Technical Research Centre of Finland Ltd (VTT), is a state owned and controlled non-profit limited liability company established by law. The Ministry of Employment and the Economy is responsible for state ownership steering. As an impartial Research and Technology Organisation (RTO) and with the national mandate and mission to support economic competitiveness, societal development and innovation, VTT carries out research and innovation activities for the needs of industry and knowledge-based society.

    VTT is organised around three main areas: Knowledge intensive products and services, Smart industry and energy systems, and Solutions for natural resources and environment. However, all VTT activities are characterised by genuine trans-disciplinary and cross-sectoral approaches and the daily project work is planned and implemented within multi-year, coordinated programmes. VTT has a long and vast experience in EU projects under different funding programmes and other frameworks (also PPPs, EITs, EIPs, etc.). On average, the share of industry partners was 48% in those consortia where VTT was engaged in FP7. In 2018, VTT was involved in 403 EU-funded research projects (278 within H2020). Ranked among the leading European RTOs, VTT is committed to responsible collaboration for achieving the Europe 2020 goals by networking with Finnish and European actors in the global context.

    In the SHARE project, VTT will be supporting WP1 on Infrastructure for SHARE implementation: methodologies and tools. In particular, VTT will lead the Definition of implementation qualifiers and instruments for implementation. In addition, VTT will contribute to other project activities, especially the roadmapping work.
