Synergy with DigiDecom 2021 for a step further towards SHARE Strategic research agenda

Following public online workshops held in 2020, SHARE contributed to the organisation of DigiDecom 2021 online event hosted by IFE, Norway, member of SHARE consortium.

Indeed, October workshop was dedicated to identifying international best practices and on-going initiatives in nuclear decommissioning.

In December, SHARE consortium investigated in depth needs for Research, in eight thematic areas: safety and radiological protection, management and costing (including digital tools), human resources management, characterization, site preparatory activities, dismantling technologies, environmental remediation & site release and waste management.

All the results were compiled from December 2020 to March 2021 to highlight gaps between needs and current best practices or on-going developments and to provide a list of actions to fill these gaps in each of these thematic areas.

At DigiDecom 2021, SHARE consortium was mainly focused at presenting these actions and at getting inputs from participants. Discussions took place in 5 breakout groups organised by thematic area, using SLIDO tool as additional support for interactions.

Outcomes of these groups will be analysed by the consortium and the completed list of actions will now be organised, grouped by key Research Topics and prioritized in time in order to provide a Strategic research agenda by the end of 2021.

In parallel, review of existing instruments for collaborative work will continue, in order to propose how to conduct road map with actions for joint activities in the 10/ 15 years.

DigiDecom 2021 was also a great opportunity for an overview of International landscape in innovation for nuclear decommissioning and waste management, mainly focused on digital transformation and robotics. Among others, It supported European PLEIADES on digital tools or PREDIS on predisposal waste management and NEA Expert Group on the application of Robotics and Remote-Systems in the nuclear back  EGRRS.
